Oh! I see. Arguably the best multiformat drive is the Plextor PX-708A. Plextor has the reliability in the CDRW market and they seem to be showing it here too. The sony is a waste of time. It's not sturdy at all. Mine died after 6 months and alot of other people had the same prob.
The plextor at newegg is $202 shipped. My next drive will definitely be this one.

I second the Pioneer. And they do burn CDs as well.

... I tried three or four of those you've listed and settled on the Pioneer 106 (A06). No coasters! even using the cheapest DVD media.

lite on is good too! and if you check on its specs, it can burn cd-r/rw much faster than most of the ones on your list.

I second the Lite-On. I got one for Christmas and I love it! No problems here. One coaster, but that was my fault!

It's ok to "first" the lite-on, but if you "second" it you're a loser.

You'd still be a poor man! Anyway, I'm still partial to Lite-On, because of the value

I agree (for once), LiteOn has always been a favorite brand of mine...very hard to beat the price for such a great product.

My sony died after 6 months. And I'm not the only one. Check CNET user ratings on these drives.

Have the Pioneer 104 and 105. As well as the Lite-on 411S. The Lite-on is a great value but I still prefer Pioneer.

Another proud user of the AO6 Pioneer. I have been using it now for about 7 months and I have burned about 500 DVDs and have had smooth sailing
