DVD Burning

Ok, I have these DivX files I want to burn into a DVD. I have a few questions though. Do I need a DVD-R disc to play on a DVD player [PlayStation2] or could I just use a regular CD-R? Secondly, do I need to convert DivX into something else for it to play?

Thank you.

P.S. the software I'm using is Neo, not Nero. [came with the LG drive]

if you are burning a dvd you need a dvd-r or dvd+r

cd-r is for a vcd but i am not sure if a ps2 can but about halp of standard dvd players can play

So will a DVD-R disc run on PS2 in DivX format?

lol nope, if only you could play divx though =), then you could fit like 5-6 movies on a DVD with good quality

you need to "author" the DVD in order to get it to play in any kind of standalone player. This is an MPEG-II format, with DVD quality i believe at around 6000kbps.

Pickup a copy of TMPGEnc and TMPG DVD Author, both have 30 day trials of everything you'll need to turn you divx file into a dvd compatible file, and then to burn it

--edit----

much to my surprise dvdrhelp.com actualy shows Divx on there without being scratched out. I've never known any standalone dvd player to work with divx except for really really expensive ones. I suppose you could try burning a divx file to a dvd but I'm still skeptical.

As you can see here:

http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers.p...&Search=Search

The ps2 will read any of the 4 DVD media formats (DVD+R/DVD+rw/DVD-r/DVD-rw)

Ok, cool thanks a lot. So those programs will convert the DivX into MPEG-II? Then after its converted I can just burn it normally using the software I have?

you can probably burn it with the software you have, but TMPG DVD Author will take the .mpg file, conver it to the dvd files (.VOB and stuff to make it ready for a dvd player), and then it has a burning wizard after it completes that. You should to be able to use just those 2 programs, but another dvd authoring program would probably work fine once u got the mpeg-II file

Ok, I finally got around to attempting this. I authored the movie to a new folder and it has a folder where the movie is, apparently in MPEGII format. The problem is the movie is split up into like 5 smaller files. I dunno how Im supposed to burn that.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

are they 5 small VOBs? if they are VOBs then there is normally multiple files in that format so no worry if they are regular Mpeg files you can link em back together quickly with TMPGenc. I have a feeling they are VOBs and you are all set to burn
