analog audio to digital--HOW ??

I have some fine music on 8 track tapes. Is it possible to get this onto a digital format? If so can anyone recommend anything?

You could probably input them via RCA/Mini cable into your sound card. It won't be "digital", just an analog recording onto your PC.

You mean hook up my 8 track and connect the "out" cables from the eight track to a "in" port somewhere on my computer?
Would that not make it a digital recording?

THANK YOU BOTH.

I guess the "in" on the pc would be part of the sound card? and will require regular RCA audio jacks--a "left" and a "right"?
If this is the case that would be easy.

After it's recorded on the pc I suppose I could burn a cd?
Anyone ever try this sort of thing?

You will need a Y-Adapter or Y-Adapter Cable

You will not get "digital" output from an analog device, so get that part out of your head. You will just be putting it into your computer so you can record to CD/MP3/or whatever your listening preference. You could use utilities to "clean up" the audio, but it will never be digital quality. Did they ever make a "digital 8-track" ?

Okay, now I have it all hooked up and playing. I imagine I would hear the sound from my pc speakers?
Here is the most important part, how do I record it on my pc? It's not like there is a "record" button.

Actually, there is, but it's not very good. You could use 'Sound Recorder' but that only lasts a couple of mins I believe.

You'll need some 3rd Party Software, like, well, I don't know that part. I've only ever recorded video/audio at the same time and used software that came w/ the video card.

I Googled, Audio Recording Software to get you started until somebody else comes along and points you to some good FREE stuff I'm sure.

Do you have Roxio Easy CD Creator by chance? I think they have some audio recording software. Maybe Nero does.

Which version of Windows? In WinXP you could use Start>All Programs>Accessories>Entertainment>Sound Recorder. Win9x has the Sound Recorder also but may be in a different location.

There are several freeware sound recorders available that may have more features than the Windows one, just do a google search for "sound recorder + freeware".
