Music sounds lisk S#@!

I recently switched from a Gigabyte MB to an ASUS A7N8X-X. When I turn up the vol. more than halfway on computer vol control, music sounds distorted. I did not have this prob. with old MB. My first thought was that I blew my speakers, but I hooked up my home stereo to computer and I have the same problem.
Is there any special settings for this MB that will change this so I get a clean sound again?
vol on realone is always set to max.

Well I started the download, I'll try it. Seeing how I have dialup connection this will take a while. so i'll let you know later on in the day how it goes.

When I do this update and remove all NV display drivers or Nvidia Di drivers from control panel, will this screw up the drivers for my graphics card which is up to date. my graphics card is a geforce4 ti 4200?
