Sharing AOL broadband

just moved into my friends house in London, and will be hooking my pc up as soon as it arrives.
my friend has AOL broadband which we want to share. i realise there are many ways to hook 2 pc's up to one internet but i dont know of any that doesnt involve him (or me) leaving a computer on 24/7.
my friend wanted to have a network card in each machine & one PC on permanent connection and the other setup as a proxy connection, but after realising his machine would have to be on 24/7 for me to connect when i wanted to, he wasnt so keen.
so, other options guys ??

thanks

Hi,

as far as I'm aware, to share AOL broadband you'll need to invest in a combined ADSL modem/router/switch, then run an ethernet cable from each machine to the router. Then just sign in from each computer using AOL as normal.

Hope this helps.

Andrew

you will not need a combined modem and router just get a router and plug the modem into the modem port on it and a computer into any of the other ports

unless aol has some kind of a protection against using more than 1 pc...then i would get a new isp...if one is available

AOL will allow you to share the broadband connection between up to 7 users, it's just that I've seen one router that will not work with AOL when the USB modem is plugged into it (may have just been a one-off), so I'd check AOL compatability with any router you plan to buy.
