Router ? Proxy? parental control...???

Ok,

My little ones are starting to use the internet, and I need a solution to block out some of the content...

I am going to buy a router to add to my LAN in addition to my switch.

I have more than one user on one of the computers, and I need a way to "whitelist" certain sites for the kids on that machine.... but I don't want to limit the content for what sites we(the adults) visit on the same machine...

Is there a type of proxy setup I can do... or a router that will limit access to a user with a password???

Linksys,Netgear, and D-Link all have parental controls built in.
IMO, the newer models of Linksys wireless routers do a pretty good job with individual profiles, content, and time-of day filters.
In particular the Linksys WRT54GS model.
There are also a variety of software solutions that I am not up to date on.

Un fortunately there is no program smart enough to filter out most of the objectionable stuff on the internet. The best solution is no pcs in bed rooms, explain the facts of life in a sensible manner explain what perverts are and how they lure children. Block aol since it is the number one pedophiles hunting ground. Explain that you monitor all chat rooms to prevent some pervert trying to bother your child just as you make sure no one bothers them in the park.

A recent sting conducted by a tv station had over 40 perverts try to meet for sex what were they thought 13 year old girls. All of this happened on aol chat rooms for teens not some porn site. The average time from first contact until attempted meeting was less than 30 minutes. The perverts range in age from 24 to 75.
