linksys router acting up

I've had it for 3 years or so... the common 4-port BEFSR41 router (wired) - version 2 (of 3) I believe. Every so often (once a day) the red DIAG light would just come on and stay on (I could be surfing or I could find it like that in the morning). I'd lose connection entirely, but all the regular lights that are usually on would be on along with the DIAG light. The little reset switch doesn't fix it, but unplugging/replugging does. I'm already at the latest firmware from linksys.com ... any ideas ? Thx.

downgrading to firmware 1.44.2 ... was 1.45.7.. I'll report back assuming I don't blow it up.

no problems so far in the last few days with the older firmware. Take note.
