Quick problem with my linksys

I have a wireless linksys set up and internet runs fine except when using instant messeging programs suchas AOL Instant Messanger. It will start out working fine then after a few minutes or so it will start to become idle and i wont receive messages and wont regain activity for a couple minutes or will be booted off. Does anyone know why this may be happening?
