cant connect to internet

my internet was working last night...now its not.

I can't repair the ip cause it says "cannot renew"
ipconfig /release, then ipconfig /renew doesnt work

unplugging it and plugging it back in doesnt work
my roommates internet works fine (i'm in college so no router or whatever)
putting a big fan near my computer to keep my cpu cooler doesnt work.

i'm now doing a repair of the xp installation. if that doesnt work (which i dont think it will) does anyone else have any ideas?

Do you know that your NIC is working? check for link lights on the NIC. New cable even. Also check device manager to make sure the drivers are shown as working.

i even formatted and reinstalled windows and it still doesnt work. any help would be appreiciated
