    Comcast and Linksys

Im running XP Pro, and i just comcast cable broadband. The connection from the wall is split for tv and broadband, when i connect the broadband directly to the computers ethernet port it works fine, but when i try to connect it to my linksys router it does not work.

I had verizon dsl previsouly so in the router settings i cleared out the verizon user/pass and replaced it with the comcast user/pass. I have it set on ppoE in the router, and yet it still does not work. Any have any idea how to get my router working with comcast?

have you tried cloning the mac address of the network card that works when you plug the modem into the computer?

for cable you will not set it to ppoE

depending on how comcast does it set it to automatically assign your ip address unless they have given you a static ip address

In the router setup i changed it to detect automatically

no i havnt because i dont know how to do that, or what to do

EDIT: in my router settings it shows a different mac address than the one on the bottom of the modem...should the mac address showing up in the router settings be the same as the one on the modem? Also, when i type ipconfig /all in the run, the box flashes for a second and then disapears, but no info comes up :/

you can only do ipconfig while in dos

so type cmd then ipconfig /all will tell you the mac address of the network card

some cable companies grab the mac address of the network card you are using, the router has the ability to clone the mac address of the network card.

i would do a hard reset by holding down the button in the back for 10 seconds and then plug it back in. this should clear out all the settings from the router so you none of the old dsl settings will be in there.

also check to see if your computers that are on the router are getting ip address from the router. each computer should have an ip address of 192.168.1.10*

Usually cycling the modem power (disconnect power for a couple of minutes, return power) will reset the modem and allow it to work with new MAC address, too.
