Yahoo Messenger Connection Issues
Greetings all.
I am running Yahoo Messenger on a PC in a small office network, and I am having some issues with Messenger losing its connection at random intervals. I may be able to leave Messenger up and chat or listen to Launch Radio for half a day without incident, or, I may get booted five times within ten minutes. Here are the details that I can provide so far:
- We use DSL for our internet connection
- We use a Speedstream SS2604 router
- As far as I'm aware, from looking at the router settings, there are no blocked
sites or any type of denied services
- I have gone into the router settings and even defined my PC's IP address to it and told the router to direct incoming Yahoo messenger calls to my PC
- In the router, I have setup Yahoo TCP ports 20, 23, and 5050 under "Special Applications" and turned them on (Not sure why I did this....thought I may help)
- Due to needing access to a franchise owned server and its apps, static IP addresses are used on all of the client PC's (including mine)
- I have no issues surfing to any web sites
- I have no issues accessing any in house client-server applications
- Though my Yahoo messenger is NOT set up to automatically log me in when the machine comes up, it WILL automatically log me back in IMMEDIATELY after I get kicked off (granted, it may take a few moments to re-establish connection...but, no intervention on my part is required in regards to entering my username and password....and I do NOT have it set up to remember that information)
- My OS is Win XP pro with all of the latest updates
- My Yahoo IM is the latest version
- Yesterday, I used "remove programs" and uninstalled Yahoo IM, and then reinstalled it. No help.
- I cannot honestly say when this problem arose, because, though I've had Messenger installed for quite some time, I've seldom used it much in the past. Certainly not enough to notice the "bouncing" of the connection.
- I have tried three of the four connection options on Messenger (No proxy, Don't detect settings, etc.....the only one that I did not use was Use Proxy), and have had the same results with all three.
That's as much information as I can think of. If there are any other details that may provide clues, please ask, and I will find them out for you.
Any information, tips, clues, relief that you may be able to provide is MUCH appreciated!

Well, it was worth a shot....lol....thanks anyway. Funny but, if I had just posted something as simple as "My Yahoo Messenger won't connect"...there would have been at least a few replies saying "please give more details".....lol.....as in the other similar post on this board. Heh heh.
