ftp problem

hi im currently hosted on a server which i need to use ftp to access so i can update my website the thing is, is that when i try to connect it wont connnect says the server cant be reached and i know the servers not down cause my website is still up so im a little confused it might have happend when i switched from a d link something or another router to a linksys wireless one noter: that im not wireless my step dad is im still on etherent. but i dont know i have everything correct with my name and password it just cant find it i have no clue i tried forwarding the port but that didnt work or i did it wrong but i think i did it right sincce my friend helped me and hes pretty good at it or isnt so any help would be great and i think i might have posted this somehwere else im sorry but i forget easily.

Can you reach the server any other way? Assume you can since the webpage works. You do not have to do any port forwarding to FTP out.

If you ping it, do you get an IP or unknown host?

I assume you can get everywhere else. What does you host have to say about it?

i get the ip address from the server and the it says connecting then after a bit it says
it doesnt get a response from server

Are you useing passive FTP. I have to use passive FTP to connect through my firewall. Just a thought.

Have you tried contacting the company that Host the site? They should be able to give you more information, including verifying your username & password
