Is there any free programs out there that will make my connection more consistent? I found some that cost but I am not even sure if they would work. does anyone have any experiences with a program like that? http://www.speedanywhere.com/asspte.html |

I am not wanting to speed it up but just to make it more consisent. Maybe something that would act like say a capacitor in a car stero system. |

i dont think there is a way to do it because it depends on how many other people r useing it on ur connection and in others. the weather can also affect it. |

tested with your suggested site 3 times; 1659, 1721, 1833 (Kbps)
tried McAfees connect speed test, 'bout the same; 1.679, 1.953, 2.071 (Mbps)
I've been as high as 4.0 Mbps... I must have been on my channel alone! Was great.
not real consistent, but I doubt I could actually see this slight variance during download, etc. I'm usually faster then most sites that I visit... however, some of the larger sites, like Microsoft allow me to download at "T1" "T2" speeds. Smaller and busy sites bog me down to DSL levels.
more consistency? how can you control the other end? hmmm, I don't think so. |

Interesting.........
On that same test site, I scored all over the place.
2880
1952
1750
1332
1536
1240
1344
Too bad I couldn't hang onto 2880. I used to get over 2500 religiously, but now am usually in the teens. Adelphia (my isp) says anything over 1000 is great. I challenge them to allow me to pay 1/3 of what I'm signed up for & they (all of a sudden) don't think that's fair! Hmmmm.........wonder why??? |

SO I'm not the only one. For the last half a year I've been riding in the high 2000's and suddenly since sometime last week I can't get above 1600 . I contacted Adelhpia and they say it's my NIC, but I connected using other PC's and the same thing. |

Nope, it's definitely not you or your NIC or my router. If you're in So Cal too, then it's rather obvious something's up.
What I loved is when I caught the guy redhanded with transcripts about what happened the night b4. I mentioned the 1500 bottom d/l speed casually, then when he told me he looked at last nite's transcripts & basically called me a liar, I turned around & did the same thing to him, by pulling up the transcripts & showing him EXACTLY what his guy had said!
I suppose they could've also told me that 56k x 2 = 112k and thus anything over 112k should make me really happy. Problem is.........THAT'S NOT WHAT WE'RE PAYING FOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
At 2500kbps, web pages "blink" on.....(very nice)
At sub-1300kbps web pages "load" on.....(not so nice).
If they'd never given me 2500 in the first place, I wouldn't know the difference.........(well, my sister gets disgustingly SICK 4,500kbps speeds down in Ladera Ranch, but that's for them "rich folk"...........not me....LOL!)
Now that they're costing me over 1,000kbps in speed, I'd like to charge 'em back!! |

Update............
This is the stuff that's not an ***exact*** answer, but here's what I've just done & what happened.......
#1.) I'd unplugged the modem for a few seconds & replugged it in & switched the router/print server off/on but nothing for an extended period of time. Sooooooo
#2.) I unplugged the modem, the router and the print server & left them off for a good 5 minutes
#3.) Put everything back together, shutdown the computer, & restarted everything at the same time & let everything bootup, let the modem grab an IP, etc. etc. All lights are in working mode again after a few seconds
#4.) Start up the PC after the modem's online for sure and I got the following results..........Now riddle me that one!!! |
