| Scientific Atlanta DPX110 And connection problems
I do not know if anyone has this kind of problem... I currently am on the Comcast high-speed system using a Scientific Atlanta DXP-110 modem they sold me when I got my service... Recently I've been having all sorts of problems and when I call them, all they tell me is, you modem is responding perfectly fine and there seems to be no problems, etc etc. What my problem is, The cable modem will randomly disconnect itself from the network... The status light will just shut off, and lose connection for up to 5 minutes, then come back... Now this can happen once in 24 hours, or several times in 30 mins.. now the modem is almost 2 years old, but its only been recently since these problems have been happening. I cannot check the modem directly since my ISP has SNMP disabled once it connects.
I've tried everything from checking splitters, cables for breaks, etc. No problems there. (it is split once right before my modem, then once more again in the house for the tv sets.) So it does not seem like its signal loss on my part. They say there are no other problems reported in the area or anything.
Anyone might have a clue as to what I should try to do? |

| Me too
I use Adelphia but have the exact same problem. Started maybe three weeks ago. Using a lot of bandwidth (ie Bittorrent or a large file download) seems to trigger it for me. But sometimes not. Very frustrating.
I first suspected Adelphia was throttling me, but they say no and I believe them.
I'm using a Netgear wireless router... I thought that might have something to do with it . Updated firmware, no change. Now I'm bypassing the router and have had about ten minutes of decent speed and still alive. If it's something on the router, what could it be? I disabled UPnP, no change. Can't think of any other settings to change.
If enyone figures this out, please let me know here.
Just died after about 30 minutes connected directly to the SA DXP110, no router. Bummer.
Thanks,

I had the same problem and fixed it thus:
1. My PC's NIC is 10/100base-T while the modem is merely 10base-T. I looked at the PC's card configuration in Device Manager and it was set to Auto-config. I had seen Auto-configs fail to negotiate correctly lots of times before in other equipment, so I set it to 10base-T and rebooted.
2. I looked up my modem (DPX110) on the Internet and found that it supported 5 simultaneous connections. My download manager was set up for 20 (!) so I reset that to one less than the max of the modem, for a total of 4. No more disconnects or apparent loss of download speed.
The DPX1100 responds to http://192.168.100.1 in a browser and may provide additional diagnostic information if it hasn't been disabled. Click on the little pictures in the webpage to see. |

| DPX110 crashing due to excess connections
I spoke to Blueyonder tech support this evening, and they say that the DPX110 will crash when it has too many simultaneous connections. This will most likely occur when using bittorrent or accessing a page with many, many images (like www.myspace.com) |

I'm glad you were able to confirm that.
Good job! |

| I have a similar problem: possible solution..
I have a similar problem and have found a (temporary solution); I've started another thread on this forum to see if anyone has a better fix, but here's my offering:
I have just started using cable-RoadRunner with a modem by Scientific Atlanta, and when I am on-line, but am inactive on the net for more than about 10 minutes, my computer loses the internet-connection, and I can't get it back by re-powering the modem; (apparently the modem is not the problem...the problem appears to be Windows..I'm using XP Home with SP2); also I can't get the connection back by re-booting. This is what I have to do, (I got this fix from a RoadRunner tech-help guy):
1-close all programs
2-Start/Run/"cmd" (without the quote-marks)
3- (Enter)
4-Type: "netsh winsock reset catalogue" (Without the quote-marks; be sure to include the spaces as shown)
5-( Enter)
4- You may have to re-start, and you may have to re-power your modem (I haven't had to..so far). |

Thanks DrdotK,
I downloaded the fixes you suggested, and will keep them handy. I've also installed and am now browsing with Mozilla Firefox...seems to be faster, and I'm not having that loss-of-connection problem any more (crossing my fingers). By the way (for any other readers who want to try my fix above) you may want to look at the refs from DrdotK, above, first, because there are some warnings there about using the fix (that was suggested to me by the RoadRunner tech ...that he didn't mention). Later... |

Could my opening mulitple tabs also cause this problem? I usualy have around 6 to 10 tabs that open on startup. I use firefox with WebSTAR DPC2100R2 modem. |
