Windows xp and networking

I am running windows xp pro, when i try set up the network by going to control pannel and running the set up home or small office network i keep geting an error before its done seting up saying that "an error has occured and you need to manually setup the network or run it again with different settings" well i have run it with several combo's of setings and i keep geting the same error, does anyone know how i can fix this? It used to work, i was just trying to set up my network with another computer.

Have you tried manually setting it up? Have you checked what settings are being applied to each network card in each comptuer? How long ago did it work?

Are you trying to share internet access between the two or just setup file sharing?
How are the two computers connected?
With a router?
With a switch?
Hub?
Crossover Cable?

We need a few more details than "it doesnt work" =(

About the worst thing you can do to a windows XP network, especially an XP pro network, is run the wizards. So much so that now that it's hosed it may be irreperably damaged. Probably not though. As VHockey86 is inquiring, define what your intent is and how your setup currently. Setting up an IP network on XP pro is about as easy a thing you can do on a windows network. Assign IP's, name your workgroup on each PC, share your resources and setup user accounts. Not much else to it. If your trying to use ICS and share an internet connection your IP scheme will be setup automatically.

P.S. You say you don't know how to setup XP manually. That is why google is such a great tool. You'll only get a few hundred walkthroughs if you google setting up XP network
