setting default network device for LAN?

my setup is a XP and a 98 machine linked via a crossover and a internet connection in the XP machine via USB. now when i try to setup games it seems to use my internet IP and not my LAN IP to set them up, i can unplug the internet connection and it works but i was wondering if there was some sort of way to change which IP it uses without having to turn stuff off?

There is a preferred network adapter setting within XP. It may help, but it may not depending on the game. Some games also have a network card choice setting as well.

go to: Control Panel, Network Connections, Advanced, Advances Settings

Then on the Adapters and Binds tab, you should see a Connections window, there you can change the order of the connections and it may help.
