| sharing bandwidth on a lan?
I have a lan set up with 3 computers sharing 750/256 cable internet via a D-link di-604 router. Problem is when one computer is running something like Azureus (there are probably other apps that would have similar effect), the internet speed for everyone else is abysmal.
I realise this could probably be resolved by configuring Azureus (on the offending computer) to accept fewer connections etc, but I would like to know if there is any general way to stop one computer hogging the internet connection in any situation (maybe with some kind of network tool or router config)? |

sounds like the torrent program is eating up the upload speed.
limit the amount of upload the program has and your internet should pick up |

Some routers will let you set the max bandwith per port, but I don't know if that one will.

Isn't there any apps that would run over the network and provide that functionality? |

some routers have the ability to block incoming ports proffit.
it all depends on your network setup. |

Try to use bandwidth management software like WinRoute or Sygate Office Network. It can limit the bandwidth using for download, browsing etc. |

Is there any way to do it that isn't so dang 'spensive???
I'm interested in doing the same thing.
I actually have the same setup, three computers connected to a d-link di-604 router. I get the feeling that my DSL internet is choked almost to oblivion (slower than dialup! really!) whenever one of my roommates is downloading something. It's really VERY bothersome. I got DSL because I can't stand dialup!
edit: sorry to dig up an old thread, but it isn't THAT old.
