see if this helps. If it doesn't, I'll call a woman who I work with later today and see if she could find information about how to configure a card like this. All the jetdirect cards I have configured are in Laserjet 3500's, And laserjet 4000 series printers (with screens) I didn't know one of these existed with a jetdirect card in it! The oldest one I worked with was a Laserjet 4M, and that had a thicknet connection, apple talk connection, and many more odd connections that are no longer used.

You telnet to the jetdirect card (the default ip should be listed somewhere, usually 192.168.?.?).

Then you configure it to your liking from there.

Often they use DHCP by default. So after it is powered up you can print the config page to see the IP address. You can often use JetAdmin software as well. It should all be clearly printed in the manual.

another method to config it... put the 1600's JetDirect card into a Laser printer with an LCD display. Then config it and put it back in the 1600

It's onboard with the hardware, not a slide in card like the one you are probably familiar with.

Does that one use a web server for configuration? You can find out what IP it has from whatever you are using for DHCP and then plug the address into your favorite web browser and then off you go...
