TRENDnet - 14dBi Outdoor Directional Antenna (8km range wireless....) I need input :)

Me and my friend love internet were not ritch but we love networks and making networks and were young people like learn in wireless these days.

We live city called Barrie, Ontario, Canada theres many houses where we are it's basicly flat tho to his house down side is many houses on the way. Hes about 1.5km away...

Now has anyone used this device before? could it reach 1.5km with houses in the way? lol I have linksys wireless g and I can go out my drive way and thats it.. but never tried with this cool device. Only down side my mom would never let me mount on a tree or somthing or tower lol...

It's idea fun idea wanted hear what you guys think...

It will have to be mounted high if there houses, or anything else, in your line of sight from your house to your friend. At over a km you'll have line of sight or you won't have a link, not matter how high the gain on your directional. You can get alot farther than the 8 km you mentioned in your title with that antenna but with LOS.

yes you will need to have the two mounted onto of a tower or some sort of device that is very tall. possibly your roof if you are in a high set house.
