Serv-U Server Trouble
I've been searching the internet for two days now on setting up my FTP server and so far I still haven't gotten anywhere. I cant get outside access to the server. Here's my set up. Did everything in those little tutorials and such, set up my router to have passive ports, and to enable port 21 on the router. I did the same thing in Serv U but I'm still getting no access from the outside line. I have my server IP set to the Local Ip address (Someone told me that you have to set your local ip to the server, and the roughter fowards the users to the server) I'm on DHCP on both the roughter and on the Network Setup. My router finds IP and so does windows...WHAT AM I DOING WRONG! I meen this wasn't a problem when I was using Serv-U with dial up....

what router are you using?
you should forward port 21-22 to the machine.
to connect from the outside, get your ip address from www.whatismyip.com

some isps will block random requests on certain common server ports such as 21,22, 40,80,8000 and such. I know comcast will do that. i can't use default port (80 i think) because comcast blocks it. not many people run an ftp server on 56 k...lol. so the dial up companies aren't as strict about it. You just have to find a port your isp isn't blocking. sucks sometimes...used to drive me crazy.

I'm using a Linksys Wireless G with Speed Boost Router. I tried connecting to my external IP, but Windows returns an error about not being able to connect. What's with that!?! And I have my external IP set in my passive address. Question, am I supposed to have the Surv U address connect to itself, or is the Serv U server supposed to connect to the external IP like dial up. If so, then Serv U is not finding it. All it recognizes is the local IP.
Hey Sr71000, so I would have to go through every port to see which one I can use to connect? What if I'm using a P2P protocol? Can I use one of the ports it's using for me to upload and download?
