Internet connection with router gets worse over time.

I have a Linksys NR041 (Network Everywhere) router. I've noticed that my shared cable internet connection gets steadily worse over time. I see performance loss in browsing, internet games and downloading. It almost always gets so bad that downloads of big files (2-3 hours worth) time-out after a while. When I unplug my router for a few seconds and plug it back in, my problems go away for a short while, only to come back again. Is this a specific problem with my router? I also have a Network Everywhere NC100U-WM ethernet card. I don't think that the NIC is the problem, because I still see performance loss when I use my integrated 3com 3CSOHO100-TX adapter. If anyone's got an answer, or better yet, a solution, I'm all ears.

you could see if there is a "firmware" update for it...that is sort of like a bios flash for the router

I did look at linksys site though and dont even see that router listed anywhere

For some reason the firmware update refuses to install. It always claims that there is no response from the server. I'm using the right password and the IP address is the default (192.168...). I see no reason why it should do that. Also, the router is made by linksys but drivers and information can only be found at www.networkeverywhere.com. I don't know why this is true, but it says Linksys on the router casing big as life.

probably changed since Cisco bought Linksys and obviously this is one of the older "pre cisco" linksys things

you tried resetting the router? maybe reset it and then try the update

Thanks, resetting my router allowed me to upgrade the firmware. I'm not sure if that's solved my problem yet, but being up-to-date rarely hurts one's situation. On a side note. Wil I get any performance gains from entering the hostname and domain name in the router setup page? My ISP doesn't seem to require it since I'm on the internet now, but I was just wondering...
