Search Engine Performance and XP

I'm running Windows XP with Service Pack 2 installed.

My issue is that any time I try to use Google (from toolbar or homepage), Yahoo! Search or any other search engine I get extremely long response times. To get any results at all I always have to press enter several times (or click in the search entry box).

When I do get results it typically is after a IE "Not Responding" situation. Also, Google states a search result time of generally <.5 seconds however it takes 45 - 60 seconds for the results to appear.

Has anyone else experienced this? If so is there a fix?

I'd download Firefox as mentioned. I use it but for your case it could at least narrow down the issue a bit. If it happens on firefox then it obviously is not a problem with IE. You'll probably stay with firefox for what it's worth and that is a good thing. Tabs, nice little popup blocker, download manager and not such a big target sign on it from the skiddies.

If it's not IE then you might want to look at your connection, either locally with a NAT router, or possibly an ISP problem.
