Anyone know anything about ISDN?
Hello All.
Over the past month I have purchased two ISDN modems (3com 3C882 and 3com 3C892).
The 1st time, the D light just kept flashing on the modem. I thought it was corrupt, so I bought another one and yet again the D light keeps flashing.
The reason I have bought these modems was because my old 3com 3C892 would connect to the internet, but it kept disconnecting every 90 minutes or so. This occured for 8 months until this October, it fianlly bit the dust.
I run XP and just bought a new computer in Janurary (Compaq). The reason I use ISDN and not cable or dsl is because, well, I don't live in an area in TN where I can get access to Cable or DSL, not even close.
Does anyone know what may be causing these ISDN problems? Ive tried everything. Had a Bellsouth tech check the lines a few months ago and she said they were fine. Used different modems, telephone jacks, serial cables, power adapters, and NOTHING is working to stop the D light insanity.

i have a Diva T/A ISDN modem (i am not using), but under the manuel it says
if the link led is glowing steadily but the D led is not, your cables are connected properly, but your isdn line most likely does not support Auto SPID
AutoSpid is an ISDN protocal feature that enables the Diva T/A to download your Service Profile Identifiers, Directory Numbers, and Call Type info through the ISDN line automatically.
If the AutoSPID is not supported, you will require the following info from your ISDN service provider
ISDN number(s) usually provided by your ISDN Service

Autospid is supported. I never had to enter the SPID numbers before on the computer. I have tried that with the new modems, to no prevail, however.
3coms also don't have a "link" led. Just power, test, d, b1, b2, dtr, sd, rd

OK I just tried these things on a different computer with the same ISDN line and the same thing..... D light just goes green for about 10 seconds, then blinks on infinitively.
I have a hard time I have 4 bad modems. 3 3coms and a Netgear (though the netgear one never worked for me at anytime; the 1 3com i have pretty much bit the dust doesnt even power up now).
Only thing I can think of is if its the phone line.

3com Issues
Hello ISDNBlues,
Sorry you've had trouble with the modem.
The powerlight blinks because it does not have a sync with the ISDN Switch w/ the telco.
isdn.ws also sells these same modems, so I know how they work pretty well.
In your control panel, go under modems, then click on the modems tab, find the modem you'd like to work with, and click on properties. You should have a tab that says ISDN. Go to the ISDN tab, and fill out all of the information required. You will need to know your isdn switch type, the directory number and spids for both lines.
Once you do that, reboot
Upon your 1st sucessfull connection attempt, and if the information is 100% correct, your power light will light solid. Your connection may or may not work, so if not, reboot. That power light will remain lit. You should now be able to connect.
Hope this helps,
Jose.

Hey
Hey
I actually finally found out why it was not working properly last night. 2 reasons.
A) Squirrels had eaten up my ISDN line (which explained the disconnects even b4 i bought the new modems)
B) I had to uninstall and reinstall the COM Port feature in the hardware device manager and then reboot. Then, I finally was able to go into my 3COM software and do something without a winstall error popping up about the COM port.
Thanks for the information too.

Warning about isdn.ws
This is a isp service that you should stay far away from.
They are trolling all the forums trying to buddy up with users, so they can set there hook in you for some big money. DONT give them your credit card number.
