| Serv-U And A Dynamic IP...
I got Serv-U set up and running perfectly. But I have a Dynamic IP and since my dad will be connecting mostly and since he's not that technically inclined, he'll get confused if he has to re enter ip addys and stuff.
Is ther a way I can set it up so anyone would just have to type in ftp://myFTPserver(whatever the name would be) and it would connect, what ever my ip is?
I know theres a way, but wasn't really sure how I would type that into google.
Thanks for the help. |

You da man!
Just got it set up and running, very easy
This makes me think of something though...
I got a app that lets me remotely connect to my home computers from work. It's called Radmin if it matters.
But with this dynDNS is there a way I can use it for Radmin. I have to have the IP to use Radmin, but when my ip changes and if I'm at work I'm stuck. Is ther a way to use dynDNS for this too? |

yah i use radmin also, love it.
but yes in radmin you can use the DYNDNS address in place of an ip address (it works just like the ftp. All that DYNDNS address is pointing to is an ip address)
no configuration needed
you just need to make sure if you are using a router to forward the ports to the machine radmin is running on that you want to access |

I love Radmin too, it's great. Been using it for awhile now. I don't see why people pay a ton of money for apps like gotomypc
Anyways, let me make sure I understand. When I try to connect to my home PC from work, instead of putting in the IP addy, Id just put the name in that I created with dynDNS?
Sorry if these are stupid questions, I'd try myself but I'm at home right now so I can't really test it.
My routers already setup, got all the ports opened.
Thanks again dude. |

yes when you click connect to and it ask for an ip address
say if i have account techimo@homeip.net
i would put that into there in place of the ip address
think of the account just as an ip address. because that is what the link is pointed at.
If you ping www.google.com you get an ip address of 64.233.161.99
if you used that ip address in a web browser it will go to google
Its called DNS read more about it here http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/D/DNS.html |

You helped me get a lot done this weekend! Got my FTP Server up and running and found a way to always be able to connect to my PC's remotely.
