Help!! Windows 98 not capable for wireless?
I have an old gateway that runs on Windows 98 (not SE), and I was wondering if there was any way I could hook it up to our wireless network? It just seems like all of the wireless cards are compatible for Windows 98 SE and above, but nothing for just Windows 98.

Hiya PSmith,
There are many good USB drives available on the market. I've tested only SMC and Linksys and they seem to work with even windows 95
Another great feature of this is if you happen to purchase a laptop, all you have to do is unplug the device and bring it with you!

Well, I have a desktop and a laptop currently runnin on XP all on my wireless network, but it seems as though all of the wireless cards for my gateway requires you to be running on Windows 98 SE or higher. Maybe I am just looking at the wrong things...

Have you tried hooking up a wireless card to it and failed, or just assumed it wouldn't work becuase of the system requirements listed? You can always try it if you haven't. Just keep the box and receipt handy incase it doesn't

uhh.....grr..there is a way to do it....get one of the wireless bridges like they make for the ps2...and then run a network cable between the bridge and the computer. that should work, because the wireless part is completely stand alone...as far as the computer would be conserned..it would think it was on just a plain old wired network....the ones they make for gaming consoles i believe work with computer, and because they're designed to work with gaming stuff they're driverless...and whatever they connect isn't really aware of the whole wireless factor
it should work for ya
something like

should work..but if it dosen't this definately will

Your two other options that I see are:
1) Keep looking for a card that will work with Windows 98
OR
2) Upgrade your OS

This is certainly not a film for the easily-offended. Some may brand it puerile and self-indulgent and let them do so. This is razor-sharp comedy filled with cutting one-liners and some brilliant...
