I have a battlefield 1942 server running on the internet and whenever someone starts transfering files on the LOCAL network all the people on the server get lag (aka 300+ pings). I am using a 16 port switch to connect everything together directly including the internet (dsl 3000/512).
My understanding was that switches gave dedicated bandwidth between the two nodes that were talking but currently it is acting as if it is a hub?
Any information on why you think this would be happening would be great,

are you sure they are not sending out site of the lan? sounds like it
you shouldnt have any problem with file transfers on the local lan
who makes the switch and the model?
a hub sends the information to all ports, a switch only send the information to the port requesting it. |

It is definetly inside the lan. she was doing a transfer from a laptop to her desktop. I will check the model number and repost. |

I cant believe I bought a hub! And what is harder to believe is that it took me a year to figure it out!
Oh well I guess I just found out why we have lag at lan partys when people are getting the patches off the server.
Now to find the guy who sold it to me and accuse him for false advertising.
BTW, what is a switching hub? |

I find that sometimes hubs have switching written on them, but there refering to the fact that they can use both 10 and 100 mb connections without slowing the whole hub down to the lowest speed conected. |
