| Losing IP address when comp goes in Standby mode
Need some help (re)finding the proper settings:
This is what I get when comp goes in Standby mode:
"Your computer has lost the lease to its IP address ............. on the Network Card with network address .................... "
I used to have it but I can't remember so now I have to restart to get the IP renewed.
OS is W2K pro
connection on cable
Thanks

Generally for W2K it is ipconfig /renew to renew the IP address. |

In Win2k /Winnt/Win Xp.... goto the run command prompt. Type cmd, and press enter.
then once at the c:/ prompt, type "ipconfig /all"
It will give you all you tcp/ip info.. and if you new to renew a address, just type "ipconfig /release", then "ipconfig /renew"
Hope this helps

I always disable standby mode and power management in general when plugged in.
I don't know any other way. |

on the newer computers, there is a bios option which enables the nic to awaken from standby mode whenever broadcasts are made.
this might fix your ip loss problem but depending on whether your 'puter is neworked to other machines, then it may NEVER drop back into standby mode since the nic will also pick up extraneous network traffic.
personally, if renewing your ip lease manually fixes your problem, i'd go that route. just write the command-line into a batch file and put the shortcut on your desktop. one click and voila, you're back online.
