Hello, I just formatted my laptop, reinstalling windows xp. I have a laptop model # 2653-cu1, now whenever I try scrolling a webpage in IE, its very laggy and choppy. I went to IBM.com to download the video drivers and it's still laggy. Anyone have any suggestions? I greatly appreciate it.
Thanx |

Welcome to TechIMO!
First up, try disabling smooth scrolling. Click Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced -> Use smooth scrolling. That usually resolves scrolling problems in Internet Explorer.
Next up, Internet Explorer creates a rather severe security risk when operating with the default configuration. Unless you enjoy tweaking multiple settings, I suggest downloading and installing FireFox as an alternative. I think you will also find it to be more responsive than Internet Explorer for most web pages. http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

As to lag, what type of Internet connection do you have - dial-up, cable, DSL, etc.? Also, do you have many applications running the background? |

Usually the best browser I have found for anything is Opera. Sorry to all you Mozilla fans out there, but at least we agree IE is trash. Opera is the fastest at uploading sites out of anything I have tried which was important when I used to be on dial-up. It was amazing how much of a difference it made. At high speed it is not so huge, but it has integrated IRC, a full email client, full Java support, and a remarkably good downloading system to keep it ahead of the pack. Check out www.Opera.com. |

I would check and see if your video acceleration is enabled.
In WinXP... I think it's in control panel -> system -> performance somewhere. It's a little slider that lets you turn it up or down, see if it's all the way down.

EDIT: Note, I agree 100% with Opera . Best ever. But if you want to use Mozilla, all I can say is: anything but IE. |
