| PC won't connect to Internet
I am using a Linksys router. I was transferring files between my PC and laptop when all of a sudden the PC and laptop were disconnected from each other and now the PC won't connect to the Internet at all. I turned the firewall off and still won't connect. I tried renewing the IP address but it says unable to contact DHCP server and request timed out. Help please! |

I unplugged the router for a few minutes then plugged it back in and the same thing happened. It's odd because the laptop can connect fine. |

First thing to try: Power off your PC and laptop, the cable/dsl modem and router...power up the modem until it's "ready"...all the lights are good to go...then power up the router...once it's "ready" as well, power up your computers. |

I notice that the indicator light on the router for the PC is flickering, so I tried a different network cable, but still the same thing. For some reason it won't renew the IP address. |

Try hitting the reset button on your router, not just powering it down. This will return it to the state that it was in when it came out of the package.

It was the strangest thing, but I finally just reformatted and was still having problems so I was about to unplug the computer and have a friend look at it. I decided I'd plug it back in and try one more time. I heard a "click" noise and now I can connect. Not sure what that was all about. |
