    what's wrong with my site?

I posted earlier that my site wasn't accessible as it prompted for a username and password. My hosting provider finally acknowledged the problem as a result of the post.

Unfortunately, it has been over a week since the issue has begun and they have failed to rectify the situation. All they've said so far is, "We are working on the server and we will update you once the issue has been fixed." You can imagine how good it is for business when a web design company's site goes down.

Does anybody have any idea what might be wrong with the site that would cause it to do this? This started to happen immediately after I asked them to add an FTP account (which never worked). Their servers are WinNT which I don't know much about.

Needless to say, I will be moving my site to my personal server but I need to get access to the site so I can make a dump of all the databases and get emails.

Make sure you do not pay them for the down time (or demand a refund) anything can be happening at there end. Doesnt sound like a good company if youve been down this long

Unfortunately, I paid for one year of service. I'll see about getting a refund though.

    Not very good at all.

They should, I've already lost 2 potential clients because of this. And my company is basically at a standstill; all of our projects are at the point where they need confirmation from the client to proceed and our whole system was setup on our site. So now I get to work on business models and campaign schemes. Oh boy, how fun.

Thats the thing , like my last cell phone company , they cost you money and dont even make a real effort to correct the problem. It might be in their contract that they refund for lost time.

My provider is 1t3. Avoid them like you would the plague. Overall they're actually not that bad. It only cost me $50 for a year of hosting and the features are pretty plentiful. Unfortunately it's inexcusable incidences like this that show their true incompetence.

SSH or FTP in and check your .htacces files.... they are generally what control that sort of login. Check for one one level above your website too if possible.

If this doesn't get resolved you may want to just cut your losses and get a new hosting company =)
SiliconJunkie I think has a discounted rate going for TechIMO members with his hosting company, I'm sure he'd be glad to talk things over with you.
