| Router Problems
Hi,
I've just got my hands on a generic router, and I've used the software to do a quick setup to my ISP (which is AOL (UK)...don't hate me for it ), and the connection works, for the majority of websites!
I have 2 problems, one is that I can't get access to the router setting, as the user/password info in the manual doesn't appear to work! But that can wait till another day.
My primary problem is that I cannot connect to some websites (aol.co.uk, and ebay.co.uk to mention 2), there is just no data transfer from the router, but if I open the AOL software, I can connect to the same sites from with in the AOL front end.
Any thoughts on why the difference, and any possible solutions?
Thanks
Andrew
Edit: Okay, apparently only certain parts of the sites work, even in AOL, ebay won't allow me to login.

what is the model of the router? (company and #)
what web browser are you using?
can you ping those two sites you cant reach?
Checked for spyware?
Do you have the latest firmware for the router? |

Unfortunately, it'a generic/unbranded model, all I know is that the USB network adapter that's built into it is based on a Conexant chipset...not much to go on
I can't ping the sites either, and according to Microsoft AntiSpyware, I'm clean.

it should tell ya in the manuel as well.
I am thinking it is a "epic router" by safecom as they are the most common generic ones for us UK people.
Try ya user name and password as:
User: Admin
Password: epicrouter
Also some of the websites might not be avalibel due to the firewall setting on the router (if it has one).
Let us know how ya get on mate.

Well, it turns out it was based around the safecom model, and not being able to log into the settings would appear to be a common problem, I had to do this with a few different firmwares until I found one it liked...
So I can now I can access the settings, but still no ebay to be seen!
Thanks for your help so far, but if anyone can figure out why I still can't get certain sites, it would be much appreciated.
Thanks again.

| Got it!
Apparently I had to decrease my MTU setting...changed it from the default 1492 to 1430, and everything works great
Gotta love forums |
