| Wireless Network - Enabling WEP - But not aquiring address
Hey guys, I just received a new Belkin AP. I am trying to enable WEP on it, and so far everything is ok. I configured a key on the AP, and configured the key on the adapter on my laptop.
It says connected, and hangs on "aquiring ip address". I've tried to manually put in the IP as well, but doesnt seem like I can get to the other pcs on the network, or the web as well. However, I can ping the router and access point when I manually put it an IP, but thats as far as I can go.
Have you guys ever had an issue when enabling wep (128) and not being able to aquire an IP.
Also, I have a linksys 4 port router (non wireless) as well, which is attached to the AP.
Hope you guys can help...i'll keep researching as well, thanks.

That's usually what it does when the WEP key you have entered is incorrect. |

so it will allow you to connect to the AP, but not give you a IP address?
When i click on the AP on the list of wireless networks...its asks for the ID.
which i put as 12345 on the belkin AP configuration....and i put it in the password line when I tried to connect it.
hmm.. |

You can't usually use the passphrase on both ends with WEP. You will have to put the actual key in.

oh, then im definately doing something wrong here.
I thought all i had to do was put in a passphrase at the config panel of the AP ...and I put that same passphrase in the portion of the card on my laptop.
hmmm
The ap has 2 options. Passphrase, or key. If i click on passphrase, then the Key portion is grayed out, and if i Click on Key, the passphrase portion is grayed out.
Also, since xp is controlling the wireless (integrated wireless card on laptop) there is no option for the actual key input. All it has is a network key option, but not the actual encryped KEYs that you can put in like I can put in on the AP .
Example 00 01 04 03 a3 etc.
