Hi All,
I have a question about privacy.
Running WinXP Pro, SP2 and everything up to date. Privacy set to medium high.
Went to the autozone webpage and entered info on my car to get parts, I know I gave some info there but...
I cleared cookies ,temp and history. Next day went back to the site and low and behold the brand, year and model of my car was list right at the top of the page !
I never created an "account" or logged on in any way. I cleared Cookies and temp files again the looked around with Windows Explorer to see if I could find any trace of the personal info. Everything looked clean.
Went back to the site and info was still there. Opened up Firefox and the stuff was still there.
Ran Ad aware and spybot and the stuff was still there.
The thing is I didn't mind sharing that info the one time, but how many other things are getting out that I would have thought to have been cleaned out.
Any thoughts as to where this puppy is hiding on my machine ?
Thanks |

I guess I could undestand the IP thing except: My ISP is Direcway two way sat. I don't have a static IP and am behind a router with a NAT firewall and am running Sygate software firewall. Shouldn't all that "hide" me ? |

there really is no such thing as being hidden from the net. In order for the packet of info you request to reach its destination it Has to be able to uniquely identify you. Thats why a ip exists. If you didn't turn your PC off (internal modem), or more so your router/modem(external) then your IP is more then likely the same. The modem gets the Ip-then the router sahres it on the private side with local address. I can have the same ip for a looooong time. Till I reboot the modem. Or they reset it at the call center. |
