| Someone Please End My Router Misery
hey,
i have a huge problem, i just got my new adsl modem today from my ISP, i connected it to each of my computers seperately and it works fine, however when i try and connect the modem to the router, and then the computers to the router, it doesent work.
what i think must be happenning is that DHCP from the router side is giving me an ip address, when the Modem/ISP should be giving me one, im on a dynamic ip address, not a static
the router is an SMC 7004ABR Wired Router and the Modem ADSL PROLINK
my question is, how do i go about making my situation work? all i want for the moment is for the internet to be shared, currently im on direct line with the modem
this is really frustrating someone pls pls pls help me!!

The function of the NAT is to have seperate IP's assigned on the lan side of the router. Having the DHCP disabled requires you to assign an IP to each workstation through a static ip on the lan side, not the wan.
Does your router have a status page that shows the IP adress that is aquired from the WAN? If it's a normal ip then you can rule out that it's not connecting to the WAN port. If that's having trouble then you could try another cable or most likely look in your router or manual for MAC address cloning. If your ISP has you set to one MAC address, it will appear as if your router is the same device as the computer.
Also what authentication does your modem require to dial up to your isp? Have you filled it out correctly and when done properly, does the modem train just fine with all signal lights?
Sometimes when you use a type of authentication you must specify it in your router and enter the settings.
