Dlink wireless PCI Card not connecting

Hi All,

I am having a problem getting my wireless PCI Card to connect to the internet. My setup is as follows, two computers connected to a DSL-G604T router and a DWL-G510 wireless PCI Card connected to a computer at the other end of the house. They are both Dlink products. The wireless card has a signal but it still won't connect but i can get the computers attached to the router to connect to the net. Was on the phone to Dlink yesterday and he told me to uninstall and reinstall which i did but it still won't connect and of course they don't work on sundays so short of throwing the computer through the window i was hoping someone else has had the same problem and maybe could give me a clue as to what to try.!!! Any help would be appreciated as this newbie has run out of ideas.

Thanks

Do you have WEP or IP filters on? Is your IP range set to the same as the router (should be 192.168.0.x for d-link unless they've changed then it would liekly be 192.168.1.x). If you are on cable you should set the gateway and dns to the routers network address. If you are on DSL you may have to set the gateway to the routers network address and the DNS to the modems network address. If you set up the wired network then you know what you are doing already and should just check the wireless options on your router. You aren't running 98 or 98se on the machine that won't connect are you? I hate wireless cards on 98se.

Hi Rabidaardvark

As far as i can tell i don't have any filters on and the IP addresses are set to be obtained automatically which was what was in the manual. I will try what you suggested with setting the gateway and DNS to the router and modem and see how i go. I am running win98se on the one that won't connect, so perhaps i should try another operating system and see how that goes do you think?

I know a little bit about computers but like i said i just followed the manual, still a learning newbie at this stage

Thanks for your assistance

98 and 98SE are seriously PIA's with wireless. I'd try to configure it all manually first as I said up there. If that fails then move the pc near the router and switch the wireless to a non-98 pc would be the easiest possibilities.
