Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G Router
Ok I just moved and decided to get a Router instead of a HUB. The Router I chose is the model Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G Router. My internet is unstable when playing games. I have the Linksys Wireless-G SpeedBooster NIC to go with it but this didnt seem to help much
. I tried reseting my Cable Modem and my Router a couple of times and got no performance boosts. The only thing I havent tried is updates due to the fact I can not find any that work such as i found a firmware update but when I tried to install it through my browser it said "Incorrect image file!". So I am out of ideas and am willing to accept some assistance!

Did you try calling Linksys tech support? They just helped me set up my router.

The speedbooster isnt going to do anything special with that router. You have to get the speedboster router that supports that. And even with that speedboosting is more of a marketing hype than anything. Its not worth the money. Last time i checked the cards were alot more money than the regular G cards. So if you can i suggest you take the card back and purchase a regular G card. It works just as well.
i suggest since you are running the WRT54G to install this firmware

How far are you from the router? Also are you sure its the internet? if you plug into the router itself does it disconnect? One more thing are you running the windows wireless built in thingy and the linksys at the same time? If so you thats a big no no and i suggest you get rid of the linksys wireless software. All you need is the drivers and the windows wireless will take care of the rest.

I've seen a lot of people waste money on speedbooster NICs without speedbooster routers.

How is your connection if you're running wired to the router? How is your signal when running wireless?

So it was absolutely fine while connected straight to the cable/dsl modem or whatever you use?
GZ, I was just wondering the same thing! Everyone in your neighborhood or what?

The Linksys firewall might be to blame. Fourthbean told be to go into the Linksys browser setup and enable DMZ which puts your comp in front of the hardware firewall.

there is no need to put a computer into the DMZ for gaming, i have played countless games without issues.
DMZ opens the entire computer to the internet. Something that shouldnt be done unless neccesary

If you have a software firewall in place then you should be fine. I don't know if you have one but Linksys routers are Nazis with internet connections. I had all sorts of problems with games.

BUT, he could also do some port forwarding. A much safer alternative that won't filet your games when they are running.

Lets see how the firmware update goes before we start talking about port forwarding
