Wireless Internet anywhere?

is it possible or does any service exist that you can use a wireless laptop almost anywhere and get internet from a satellite or something? no hotspots required. i ask because my friend sells snacks on a beach in hawaii and wants internet, but isn't in a building to hook up to cable/dsl. what can they do? or is this not possible. thanks!

I helped a customer get his Cellular modem up and running . . .

It worked fine, once it was properly set up, but . . .

From what he told me, and if it was true . . . it's EXPENSIVE for both the modem and the service.

It's not that expensive... T-mobile offers a cellular+WiFi card for $99 with an unlimited data plan for $29.99 a month. I could routinely get 100+Kbps if the signal is good.
