if you live in the US, look for local deals in your area

    pros:

    no wires
roam the house and have a network connection

    cons:

    slower internal network speeds
    secuirty can be an issue
price, it adds up when you have to purchase several network cards

Advantages: Can move computer around. No network cable to string around.
Disadvantages: Slower speeds unless you go with Super G (not sure it really does 108 Mb/sec). Might have interference. More hardware to buy - each wireless computer needs to have a wireless netword adapter.

As for the cost, wireless routers these days are just as cheap as wired ones, and you get 3-4 wired ports on the back, so even if you don't use the wireless you should buy a wireless router. Brands I recommend.. Linksys, D-Link, Netgear.
Search online for the brand / model you want - the reviews people post are a great way to avoid the crappy ones.

The only router brand I would recommend is Linksys. They have probably best tech support among the others. And their routers are rock solid.

    Forget those links Tazzin posted...

if you're only using the wireless for internet usage, its fairly pointless to worry about OMG 108Mbps!

even the fastest consumer internet in teh US is only in the 6mbps range

If you have a 2.4ghz cordless phone you will probably have to get a new phone...since wireless G uses the same frequency...and if you try to use both, you might run into a lot of problems...

it all depends on the phone and the wireless card. I talk on a cordless and use the wireless with no issues.

I'd go with the Linksys WRT54G too. I've set up my own and three others with absolutely no problems with phones or compatibility issues.

This is the one I have LINKSYS WRT54G IEEE 802.11b/g, 802.3 Wireless-G Broadband Router - Retail. When we had the wireless activated we had nothing but problems from both the phones, and computers...oh well, I wired everything up now...much better than wireless IMO(except for on lappys for those wireless is better)!

wireless speeds vary between distance and equipment and interfernce.

Downloading from the intenet wont be affected because most owners dont have over a 10 mbps home connection.
