Using MS folder sharing accross VPN

When you are using a VPN to connect a few offices, is it a huge waste of DSL bandwidth to share folders accross the internet?

I ask because we want to share peachtree data accross the net and I would have to map a drive through the VPN

What are the cons of doing this?

I know my other option is Terminal Services, but it would be simpler for the user if I didn't have to teach them about Term Serv.
