1394 Networking - can't get it to work

Does anyone here have experience with 1394 networking? I'm simply trying to connect my laptop to my desktop, and share internet if possible. I've got the two machines physically connected with a 1394 cable, but I can't seem to build any working connection between the two (tried making new connections with the network wizard). According to Microsoft, they should setup a connection and assign IP's automatically once connected. I can't find any good guides online for this either.

1394 is firewire

and doesnt deal with ip addresses or networking.

if you run ipconfig /all what ip address does the 1394 interface have? I would try setting a static address on both computers to see if that works.

Cool... I didn't know that either...

I guess that is why my 1394 connections always show up in my Network Connections property page.
