Hey,
I get disconnected from the internet around 5 times a day (problems with the ISP)
so this means when im download a torrent etc I have to constantly look back at my computer to see if it's still downloading, if not I have to restart it.
So does anyone know of a program that will alert me when my internet drops.
Ive just tried using a syslog server (Kiwi syslog daemon), which my router sends error messages to when I get disconnected, but unfortunaltey you can't set alarms.
Any ideas please? Cheers

does this happen only when your downloading torrents or when you do web browsing too?
Please give us more information on how you have things hooked up. (router, firewall, wireless, cable, dsl, etc) |

It happens whenever, theirs nothing I can do about. It's mainly due to the fact I have poor copper cabling (im using ADSL) and being too far away from the exchange point.
Ive already tried absolutley everything to fix this, but until they upgrade the cabling there's nadda that can be done
So thats why i want an alarm of somesort...thanks |

Hi,
Running Opera can also be used to reload pages at a set frequency to keep a connection open.

An old trick from the dialup days was to have your email program check for new mail every five minutes to help keep the internet connection alive. | I do use a download manager for HTTP downloads, but their no use for torrent downloads, which I mainly use Quote:

| It not really a case of my internet disconnecting when I leave it idle, my router just drops the internet connection when their is too much interferance on the wire
I just need anyway of being notified when the internet drops....but im having no luck yet
cheers for the replies.......keep them coming guys |

For resuming torrent downloads, try out the P2P program Shareaza. It can download torrents and resumes them, at least in my experience.
