| Help with Port Forwarding
Hey all..Thanks in advance...
Here's my basic system:
Linksys BEFSR41 Wired Router
Optimum Cable Modem (Motorola)
bunch of Computer's on it
DVR (Security Camera DVR)on it
My issue is with the DVR. It has a webserver built into it, so when you are on the same LAN as the DVR, you just type in the IP address that I have assigned into Internet Explorer and it serves up the images from the cameras. What I want to do now is access that DVR (which uses Port 80, but is assignable) over the internet.
As I understand it, when I'm at a remote location I have to enter the IP from my ISP into Internet Explorer, and then a port number? such as 45.115.25.44:80? Doesn't it default the :80?
Anyways, I've tried to setup the router to Forward port 80, but it doesn't work. Not sure what the next step is.
I also tried using DMZ, but that didn't seem to work either.
All suggestions are much appreciated.
Thanks,
Kugler |

port 80 is http traffic, does the camera have a admin part so you can change port addresses?
That is kind of stupid to have it all go over port 80 and not be able to change it. If you can change it, make it 8080 or something besides 80
What is the model of your camera? |

I actually tried that also though, using port 99, and forwarded that on the router, but nothing.. |

did you enable for TCP/UDP traffic in the router in the port forward section?
Do you have the latest firmware for your router? |

Does it work fine over the LAN?
Check out PortForward.com and find your router (there are a few versions of the model you listed) and check the guide to make sure you have port forwarding set up correctly.
After that, if it's still not working over the internet, you might have to set your cable modem to assign the public IP address assigned to the modem to be used by the local LAN device (or maybe it's set it to not use the public IP address). Some modems dont have this option so if you dont have it, ummm, I guess dont worry about trying that .

Thanks all...
Yes, it does work fine over the LAN, and I've verified all setting through portforward.com
Do I have to reset the router to make the changes take effect?
Thanks |
