    IP Address question

OK I switched to Yahoo,SBC,and thier system doesn't play well with my router.I had to assign IP numer to this main machine, but now I can't get the other one to access the net.I'm sure it's an IP thing.

I'm running a Linksys router, with the modem in Bridged mode.Router logs onto hte Inet account instead of the computer.

SO if my IP is XXX.XXX.1.10
What would I make the IP on the second machine so it can access the router?

And should I have to change any other settings on the gateways or whatever?

    Both machines run XP Pro

I'm ot going to be much help here but afaik they just have to be within the same domain ie... 111.000.1.000-111.000.1.999

mine are set to obtain an IP so its all automatic for me but they share the same basic domains the only numbers that are different are the last three

I'm assuming he got that from the SBC website I think most all of their modems are supposed to run bridged when using a router or specific routers what model modem are you using? and what model linksys router? also are you running wirless? did you set mac filtering controls? and check yor wirless settings?

Good question GZ.I had o run it in bridged mode to get the router to work for some reason.I set it up with the SBC tech over the phone. It was locking p alot in hte normal mode, but once I bridged it I've had no more problems with it.

    Siemens speedstream 4100 Modem
    Linksys Router.

I had to assign IP,and gateway #s to the main computer to get access to the router.I know I will have to do the same to get the other computers online.

The other computer says it's connected, but I can't get a webpage to come up

Hi, BC. Thanks for leading me to Stringdancer! A question, first. Did you try cloneing you MAC address to your router? That should just tell the modem that your computer has connected. I admit I have no idea why you need to bridge the modem. GZ3 might have a better idea.

The tech told me it was so I could run the router in PPPoE mode, and let the router log into hte modem rather than the computer.

I didn't have this problem with my BroadMAx modem, but it seems that SBC has thier own system or whatever, and thier modem doesn't work with LinkSys gear,I don't understand much about networking anyway,so they just add to my dispair .....lol.

I still think you need to spoof your modem. Have the router get your 1 ip address, and start auto ip's. Your log-in needs are what stops that, I guess. Let's bump this above the noise again. Good luck. BrianP

Are you using dhcp? (are you manually assigning ips or dynamically). if you're doing it manually, any reason?. Change the ip address of your linksys router to 192.168.2.1 and then the ip addresses of your two computers to 192.168.2.100 and 192.168.2.101 . Oh yea..those are internal ip addresses so you don't have to worry about security issues. You've only gotta worry about your wan ip. I'm guessing that your router and modem are trying to use the same ip address which could be causing that issue. Just a guess though. One last question...do you have your info saved into the router or the modem. I recommend you save it into the modem. First things first, can you hook a computer directly to the modem and connect fine without having to put in your logon information?

    heyal,

was searching for an answer to my question and found this. i have a linksys wireless router and anytime something is wrong or set wrong i go to linksys they'll walk you thru everything....understanding mite be in ? lol

only thing im having trouble with is the fact that when connecting to hubs with both pc's they're using the same ip and then cant get them in active mode. had static ip then it changed and cant get it back so its in the ports.

seriously linksys really does give the support 24/7 .....u may have trouble understanding them lol

    good luck,
    sb

    Thank You,
    Southern Belle
