    Internal Antenna

     
    Is there any way to put an antenna in a laptop that doesnt already have one?

    im trying to install this card in a friends laptop, but he has no internal antenna

    You would just install a PCMCIA into a laptop and that should be you. Usualy there will be a little dongle that plugs into the PCMCIA card which takes care of things like sockets that are to large for the small size parameters of a PCMCIA.

    Why does he need an antenna, if thats a wireless network card then thats everything you need.

    were trying to use the miniPCI card cuz then it doesnt stick out, and plus, its cheaper.

    if u read the newegg thing, it says that it needs an antenna

    usually miniPCI cards require the laptop to have an internal antenna. this is usually a wire running from the miniPCI slot up the side of the laptop's screen. if your laptop doesn't have this, then you will definitely have reduced quality of signal to the wireless card in the laptop.

    Ah one of those mini ones that don't stick out, I must agree, its better not having some thing that sticks out and catches on things.

    The laptop will not have an antenna, so you will need to fit it. As above up the screen or something. If the laptop is old and past warranty and you feel up to it you could always take off a cover and put it along the casing.
