Wireless Adapter Not Connecting to Router

Okay i have the Yahoo! DSL, and my wireless adapter doesn't connect with my router. The router says that the local network is off, when i turn on the computer (that has the router), the local network turns on, but then when I shut down, it turns off and I cannot access the internet on the computer with the wireless adapter. What is wrong?
