I used to have this problem.

Okay, for me, the problem was the SSID of the network. Most likely, the PC that cant be seen my others is on the wrong network. You can correct this by right clicking on my computer and clicking the tab 'Computer Name'. You can then set a new name for the network and PC name.

Another reason which may affect it is the firewall. You might be doing all this but then realize the firewall on that PC is stopping all connections. This needs to be corrected. Put the firewall down for a few mins and try accessing it.

A good way to see the networks is by clicking onto map harddrive in the tools menu in my computer.

what in the world are you talking about Jimmy? The SSID is name for a wireless network not the name of the computer.

Switch please tell us what operating system the machine is running and do you have file sharing enabled?

Yes i know, but i can also affect the connectivity between the computers on the network. If they are on different networks, accessing and manipualting files can be impossible.

Basically, just make sure all the computers are on the same SSID and that firewall are down.

Where does he say he is using wireless?! The SSID only matters when you are using wireless

Switch, do you have simple file sharing enabled? I suggest you disable it

what happens when you try to map a drive to the share folder on the other computer instead of using the network neighborhood crap?

First off, I would suggest you do an ipconfig on both computers to see if they have been allocated ip address - and those addresses don't conflict (also make sure they have the same subnet mask).

Then do a ping 127.0.0.1 on both computers and then a ping ***.***.***.*** (<- ip address) on each computer.

BTW, I know, this is trivial - but you cannot access X$ shares (where X is the drive letter) you have to create a new share with a different name.... Also, I would recommend disabling Caching for the Share.

Also, but I doubt this is gonna work, do an ipconfig /renew on that 4th computer...

Alright, did the ipconfig on both......both have ip's........both have same subnet....i pinged 127.0.0.1 on both.....worked great......i tried pinging the other computer (192.168.0.103) from mine (192.168.0.108) and it wouldnt work.....then i tried pinging mine from the other computer......and it was fine....another thing.....is would it be a problem if my computer i set it for a set ip address......and the other is just getting the info from my router?

Have you checked the network name for the 4th computer that doesnt show up when mapping the harddrive?

This has often been the case with me beacause one computer is on another network and doesn show up on the network you expect it to.

as long as its on the same subnet it should be fine

when you mapped the share did you use the name of the computer or the ip address. use the ip address

go to start > run type

    \\192.168.0.103\share name or C$
