Thread: Sattelite internet
June 11th, 2006, 08:36 AM #1
My friend is getting sattelite internet whenever they can set up an appointment and wants to know if it sucks or not, especially for gaming. I said most of what I've heard is extreme latencies, but couldn't verify it.
If it's any good, I'd consider it myself. What about download/upload speeds, regardless of ping?

Yes the latency sucks if you are a gaming.
Check out DSL reports and see if they have any customers in your area with opionions on sattelite.

Let me put it this way.
My friend who lives in Kingston Ontario (pretty much nothing there) has both Dialup, and Satellite.
He uses the satellite to d/l and upload things, becuz it acts normal, getting decent rates.
But when he starts getting into games.....he turns on the dialup. Why? because with satellite he's getting pings of well over 900, while with dialup he's getting something like 400-500

Is the upload for satellite still over the phone lines? when it first came out it was.
Never mind, I just read GroundZero's link.
