| Verizon FIOS installation, cat5? Different cabling on router?
ok, So I'm about to order Verizon Fios, and they say yeah yeah, the installation is free, for one computer... I'm like, ok, we have 6, but it's through a router so we're fine. She's like no, its different wiring, its fios wiring..... so I'm like what are you talking about, we can use our same router right? She's like I don't know about your router, but the new cable is a cat 5 cable.... so I said that's what we use now from the router to the computers, as well as into the router from the modem.... Do I have to have the other computers installed, or she full of crap?

We just had FiOS installed at our house. The wiring inside the house stays the same as a cable internet connection. You retain the CAT5 cables. All they do is bring the fiber optic line to the house and run it to the box on the outside of the house. Then they bring it in via a coax line into the router they provide. Then you just hook the CAT5 up to the router.
You can only hook up 4 computers, but I assume you can plug your current router into the one they provide, which would give you room for many more computers. |

Yeah. I guess it's converted from the fiber optic to the coax at the box outside of the house. Then coax to router.
What speed are you getting? We got the 15/2 and just crusing around online the speed isn't noticeably different than Comcast's 6mbps. However, uploading videos to YouTube is incredibly fast...100+ KB/s. When the contract is up, we'll probably just go to the 5/2mbps... |

Jesus. I still don't think you'd notice anything by web browsing. You can only download as fast as the server can upload. But, yeah...if you're running a server, that should be butter. |

I was under the impression 15/2 is $40 and 30/5 is $130-ish per month. |
