Issues with Verizon FiOS or it's router...FF and Steam problems

Ever since I moved into this house equipped with a FiOS connection (5/2, will be upgrading in a couple days to 15/2) and once in awhile, Firefox will stop working yet I'm still talking on AIM and such. It's like everything but web access goes down, and I have to restart, but sometimes a release/renew of my IP works although I've had to power-cycle the router before.

Next up are my issues with CS Source - it either takes some 30 seconds to join a server, as in the box pops up with the "Join Server" button and the latency of the server in question goes to 2000+, or it just doesn't work at all.

The router is an Actiontec MI424WR on the FiOS connection. I'm thinking of asking for a new router when I upgrade the speed tomorrow, but would like to know of other possible fixes.

Also, my LAN setup is two computers and one NAS box. I can still access the NAS when this crap happens, BTW, but both PC's are unable to browse pages.

Without knowing specifics of how FIOS is setup, when things start to slowdown you need to to ping tests and traceroutes to attempt to identify the source of the problem. This will at least help to identify if certain routing segments or packet loss is the cause of your slowdown.

Could be proxy issues, could be throttling, could be a lot of things.

When the internet "goes out" check to see if you can telnet to port 80 on the address you cannot access via FF.
