PLEASE HELP! Wireless connection..

I'm using:
Toshiba Satellite
Celeron Processor
512Mb RAM
60Gbhd
Windows Home XP

Hope someone could help me...
I have recently tried connecting to the university Wireless network but have been unsuccessful. I've spoken to Uni IT people who've said they cant help because they dont know what the problem is. I followed the instructions i was given exactly, ticking the correct boxes and setting Proxy settings etc. I was then asked for my Username and Password, and the IT people said i connected briefly at that point. But since then the Laptop has been trying to connect but wont.

The IT people tried using a Wireless network card instead, that didnt work either.

Any suggestions i could try would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!

Do you have the latest drivers for the wireless card?

Make sure you do not have the wireless card software installed. Windows wireless fights with the software for the card.

Do you have service pack 2 installed?
